Why have we made these changes?

We have been having trouble getting enough referees to cover the senior games. This comes back to the way that the referees are treated by players and the fact that they are children who have their own training and school commitments.  We are now asking all teams to supply a nominated referee.

Many teams have not been able to supply a person to do the bench and by using a ’sub’ and rotating the duty it disrupts the flow of the game and things are often missed causing issues with the players, referees and court supervisors.

How will referee duty work?

At the beginning of the season a roster will be produced where a team member will need to referee the game before or after their playing timeslot.

As part of the team nomination one person will be listed as the referee duty contact. That person will be responsible for making sure the team duty is covered each week.

The nominated team contact will be paid $15 per game refereed via direct deposit.

The team referee will need to complete the community referee course which can be completed free of charge online using the link below. Once completed the certificate will need to be emailed to the office. If the player is a previous referee, then they don’t need to complete the course.

We are aiming to have one black and white referee on each court along with the team referee. This should ensure that all games are kept under control.

We have moved to referee duty due to the association having a lack of senior referees.

How will bench duty work?

At the beginning of the season a roster will be produced where a team member will need to compete bench duty for the game before or after their playing timeslot.

As part of the team nomination one person will be listed as the bench duty contact. The person will be responsible for making sure the team duty is covered each week.

This will ensure that games are scored correctly and that all players can simply play rather than having to move on and off the bench when they are short on numbers.
