Coffs Harbour Basketball Association was founded in 1968 and has grown to be one of the largest and most successful in regional NSW.
Our programs start with Sporting Schools where we deliver school programs for all primary schools in the Coffs Harbour local government area (LGA).
For beginners wanting to play basketball for the first time we offer the Basketball Australia sanctioned Ford Aussie Hoops program for 5-10 year-olds on Monday and Thursday afternoons.
We offer a FREE trial for all youngsters who would like to try basketball in the Ford Aussie Hoops program for the first time.
The next step is to play competition basketball in our Winter Junior Comp (Term 2 & 3) or Summer Junior Comp (Term 4 & 1).
In the Winter Junior Comp we offer girls and boys competitions for U-10, U-12, U-14, U-16 and U-18 players.
In the Summer Junior Comp we offer girls and boys competitions for U-11, U-13, U-15 and U-17 players.
Join a club if you want to play junior basketball, our clubs are Narwhals, Mantas, Seahorses and Bishop Druitt College.
Monday night is men’s competition night with several divisions to cater for all skill levels.
Tuesday night is women’s competition night for all skill levels and the men’s over-30s competition.
The Coffs Harbour Suns is our representative program and trials for these teams are usually held in October/November each year.
Basketball is one of the fastest growing sports in Coffs Harbour and we offer a safe, fun and enjoyable environment for all ages.
Coffs Harbour Basketball Association is very excited to announce that all junior club basketball games will move to mid-week from the start of the Winter Junior Comp next term.
The association has been trying for many years to get junior competitions moved from Saturdays to a mid-week timeslot to continue the incredible growth we have seen in basketball over the past decade.
Basketball is the No.3 participation team sport in Australia for children aged 6-15 years and it is one of the highest growth sports in Coffs Harbour.
The Winter Junior Competition will now be played on Wednesday and Friday nights throughout school terms 2 and 3.
The Summer Junior Competition will be played on the same nights across term 4 this year and term 1 next year.
“We believe this will change the landscape for basketball in Coffs Harbour and it has been a long time coming,” CHBA president Elliot Plater said.
“There is more room for growth because we can still use Saturdays for development programs like Ford Aussie Hoops and maybe even some under-8 or under-10 competitions.
“A lot of weekends are taken up with representative basketball so this will free them up to play with their club teams.
“It’s also a great opportunity to get children from other sports involved in the great game of basketball that might not have had the chance because it was played on Saturdays.”
As part of the changes the men’s competition will move from Wednesday to Monday nights and we are hoping to include an over-30s men’s competition in conjunction with the Tuesday night women’s competitions.
